Travel expert names Albania as must-visit destination near UK

A travel expert who has visited around 80 countries has named Albania as a destination everyone should visit, praising its uncrowded beaches and scenery. Rory King, from Belfast and founder of Rory's Travel Club, described the country as "absolutely beautiful" and recommended it as a lesser-known alternative to popular hotspots.

Why Albania stands out

King highlighted that Albania offers beaches compared to the Maldives but at a fraction of the price. "You can either fly direct into Tirana, or you can fly to Corfu, Greece and get a 20-minute boat to visit Albania," he said. He also noted the country's waterfalls, vineyards, beaches, and scenery, adding that the weather was very good during his visit.

Albania's coastline, along the Adriatic and Ionian seas, features crystal-clear turquoise waters and white-sand shores, celebrated among the best in Europe. The northern shores provide a quieter alternative with beaches nestled in bays and hidden coves.

Attractions beyond the coast

The capital, Tiranë (Tirana), offers the Dajti Ekspres cable car for panoramic views, distinctive architecture, colourful street art, and green spaces. The country also houses the underground bunkers Bunk'Art 1 and Bunk'Art 2, now history and art museums, plus hiking routes in the Albanian Alps.

King suggested combining a visit with a day trip to Corfu, calling both "two beautiful places on either side of the water." He noted that during his trips, Albania "remained relatively uncrowded" and he "didn't notice crowds anywhere," but predicted it will "become very popular over the next couple of years," making now an ideal time to visit.
