Scottish Beach Named UK's Best Hidden Gem Road Trip Destination

Aberlady Bay in East Lothian has been named one of the best hidden gem road trip spots in the UK, according to vehicle specialists leasecar.uk. The beach, located just 30 minutes from Edinburgh, is popular among locals for its wildlife and history.

In 1952, Aberlady Bay became the first site in the UK to be designated a Local Nature Reserve. It features untouched habitats including salt marshes and sand dunes, making it ideal for birdwatching and walks.

One of its most unique attractions is the remains of two World War Two X-Class midget submarines buried in the sand. The submarines were towed to the bay in 1946, tethered to concrete blocks, and used as targets for RAF aircraft to test ammunition effectiveness.

Also named on the list was the remote archipelago of St Kilda, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its dramatic scenery and ancient human settlements dating back over 2,000 years.
