Hoppings Sunday Scorcher: Thousands Enjoy Summer Solstice Sun on Newcastle's Town Moor
Hoppings Sunday Scorcher on Newcastle's Town Moor

The Hoppings on Newcastle's Town Moor experienced a Sunday scorcher as temperatures exceeded 20°C on the Summer Solstice, drawing thousands of visitors to the annual travelling funfair.

Record Heat and New Attractions

The warm weather, which is expected to continue rising throughout the week, has blessed the event. This year's highlight is Elevate 85, described as the tallest travelling ride in the world, offering thrill seekers panoramic views over Newcastle, Gosforth, and Jesmond from more than twice the height of Grey's Monument.

Site Changes Due to Drainage Works

The site is 30% smaller than usual, with the north end closed for essential drainage works. Once completed, these works will 'future-proof' the site for a full-scale fair in future years. Despite the reduced size, organisers have promised over 400 attractions, including a kids' club, a food court with a bar, and live music.
