Woman Gives Birth on Saudi Arabian Airlines Flight, Forcing Emergency Landing at Heathrow

A Saudi Arabian Airlines flight from Jeddah to New York was forced to make an emergency landing at London Heathrow Airport on Wednesday after a woman gave birth mid-flight. The Boeing 777, operating as Flight SV21, declared an emergency while flying over Northern Ireland and was instructed to divert to London.

The aircraft landed safely at Heathrow at approximately 11:10 am, where the mother and her newborn were taken to hospital by emergency services. The plane was seven and a half hours into its 12-hour journey when the incident occurred.

Passenger Youssef Bakhashwain told MailOnline Travel that the baby girl was born in the last row of business class. He said the woman was seven months pregnant and that her husband, a doctor, assisted with the delivery.
