Marcus Rashford has no intention of moving to Turkey this summer amid interest from Fenerbahce, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Manchester United forward, 28, spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he impressed with 14 goals and 14 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions, helping Hansi Flick's side win a second consecutive La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup.
Barcelona Opt Not to Sign Rashford Permanently
Rashford believed he had done enough to earn a permanent move to Barcelona, but the Catalan club allowed their £26 million option to buy to expire on June 15. Instead, Barcelona signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for £69 million and are closing in on Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, leaving Rashford to reassess his options.
Fenerbahce emerged as a potential destination, but Romano reports that Rashford has no interest in moving to Turkey and would prefer to remain in European football. The forward is now expected to return to Manchester United for pre-season training, where manager Michael Carrick is keen to give him a chance to regain his spot at the club.
Rashford's Future Hinges on Top Club Bid
Rashford can still leave United, but only if a bid comes from a 'top club'. Tottenham, Arsenal, Napoli, and Chelsea have been linked with the forward this summer. His future is expected to be resolved once he returns to pre-season after time off following England's World Cup exit.
England were eliminated in the semi-final, losing 2-1 to Argentina in Atlanta. Rashford started two of England's seven matches in the tournament and scored once, netting the fourth goal in the group opener against Croatia. He came on deep into stoppage time against Argentina after Lautaro Martinez put the holders ahead in the 92nd minute.
Rashford Speaks on Transfer Timing
Before England's quarter-final against Norway, Rashford addressed his future, saying: "I was very clear with everyone involved before the World Cup, I wanted it (a move) done before. If it's not, I wanted it to wait until after. I want to be fully present in the moment."
Manchester United's non-World Cup players returned to pre-season training last Thursday and are set to play their first friendly against Championship side Wrexham in Finland on Saturday.
