Julian Alvarez has confirmed he wants to leave Atletico Madrid, stating that a transfer is the best option for everyone as he seeks to fulfil his dream elsewhere. The Argentina international, who has been linked with Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, made the revelation during the World Cup.
Alvarez's statement and transfer demand
Speaking to ESPN, Alvarez said: 'Honestly, I don't know. I don't think it's the right time to talk about this, but I can't hide or pretend otherwise either. I try to be an honest person. I spoke with the people at the club I needed to speak with. The best thing for everyone is a transfer. I want to fulfil my dream.'
The 26-year-old forward scored 20 goals in all competitions for Atletico last season, following a 29-goal campaign the previous year. His form since leaving Manchester City has attracted heavyweight interest, with Real Madrid making a €150 million (£129.4m) bid earlier this month.
Release clause poses obstacle
Atletico Madrid have insisted that any buyer must pay Alvarez's whopping release clause of €500 million (£431m). No club is expected to meet that figure, meaning negotiations between Atletico and the player's suitors will be necessary to secure a transfer.
Alvarez's desire to leave could encourage Atletico to accept a lower bid. The club has previously shown willingness to negotiate on high-profile players, but they hold a strong position with the release clause in place.
Interest from top clubs
Arsenal have been heavily linked with Alvarez as they seek to bolster their attack. Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG are also monitoring the situation. The Gunners are among several Premier League clubs with the financial muscle to pursue a deal, though the release clause remains a significant barrier.
The transfer saga is expected to intensify as the World Cup progresses and the summer window approaches. Alvarez's public statement adds pressure on Atletico to facilitate a move, but the club has not yet indicated a willingness to drop their demands.
