Tutu-wearing perv who exposed himself avoids jail

A serial offender who repeatedly exposed himself to women and girls while wearing tutus has avoided an immediate prison sentence. Daniel Wood, 35, was handed a 10-month jail term, suspended for 18 months, at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court on October 12.

Wood, who was known to locals for dressing up as the Grinch to surprise children on the school run, had previously been given a five-year criminal behaviour order (CBO) on November 5, 2025. The order banned him from wearing transparent clothing, tutus or similar attire, and from exposing his genital area in public. He was also instructed not to follow or approach any female who is alone and unknown to him, and not to enter woods, bridleways and alleyways near his home.

Breach of Order and Further Offences

Despite the restrictions, Wood breached the CBO on July 9 by approaching a stranger in a public place in Tunbridge Wells. He initially denied the offence but was found guilty after a trial in September, where he was also convicted of common assault on a woman on the same day and in the same location.

He was remanded in custody while an all-options pre-sentencing report was prepared. At the sentencing hearing, the bench noted the offences were serious and that Wood had shown a flagrant disregard for the court order. He must now be supervised by the probation service for the duration of his sentence, comply with instructions from officers, and attend appointments or take part in activities as directed.

History of Exposure Offences

The court heard that Wood approached two teenage pupils in June 2023 as they walked home from school. One of the girls, aged 15, spotted him wearing a T-shirt before losing sight of him. He then reappeared in a pink tutu, which he lifted to expose his genitals before skipping away as the girls ran off.

He exposed himself on two other occasions, leading to his arrest in April 2024. He was charged with three counts of exposure and one count of failing to comply with a community protection notice. Wood initially denied the allegations but later pleaded guilty, claiming he did not act for sexual gratification but because he likes dressing in women's clothes.

Additional Incidents and Sentencing

In July 2023, a woman in a car saw Wood run into the road and expose himself. Eight months later, another victim spotted him running up the road in a pink leotard, which he pushed aside to reveal his genitals. After that incident, he was handed a community protection notice banning him from exposing himself in public and wearing transparent clothing while out.

In April 2024, a member of the public saw him dressed in such attire, jumping out from bushes in the pink tutu before running off, although he did not expose himself on that occasion. Police found more than 40 tutus in his wardrobe when he was arrested.

Magistrates also heard that Wood had been struggling with his gender identity and had anger issues, and that he could face a wait of up to five years on the NHS waiting list for gender reassignment. He was placed on a 12-month community order for the exposure offences and the CBO was granted at that point. As part of his latest sentence, he must also wear a GPS monitoring tag for three months.
