Major UK retailers have issued urgent product recall notices this week, warning customers not to use certain items due to potential health risks. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has alerted customers to a packaging error concerning snacks sold at Asda and Sainsbury's, and has also issued a warning for customers to check codes on eggs following the discovery of Salmonella. In addition, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has raised an alert regarding products sold at Next.
Peanut butter bars recalled over undeclared peanuts
Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars have been pulled from the shelves of Asda and Sainsbury's after they were mistakenly packaged in Skinny Whip Toffee bar wrappers, which fail to declare peanuts as an ingredient, reports the Mirror. This oversight means the product could pose a serious health risk to anyone with a peanut allergy. Consequently, the affected bars have been recalled from Asda and Sainsbury's customers.
The FSA stated: "Halo Foods Ltd is recalling the above product and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product and on their website. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."
Sandals recalled over injury risk
Mint Velvet's Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals, available through Next, have been recalled due to a potential risk of injury. The OPSS stated: "The product presents a risk of injuries as the footbed can become detached from the wedge heel during use. If the footbed unexpectedly became dislodged during use, the user could fall, leading to injuries. The products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005."
It further added: "The product has been recalled from end users by Next. Next has contacted consumers who purchased the heels directly. Owners are advised to stop using the product and follow the instructions sent by Next to arrange for a refund or replacement."
Eggs withdrawn over Salmonella risk
UK households and businesses have been warned of Salmonella being found in eggs, which have originated from Yasensvit Ltd, Ukraine and are stamped with the code 3UA1012066. The FSA said all of the eggs should be removed from sale and not consumed. It said: "All eggs with the code 3UA1012066 should be withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers. These eggs should not be consumed. Consumers should check the code stamped on the egg; do not eat eggs stamped with 3UA1012066. Instead, dispose of them at home."
These eggs are not sold in large retailers, like supermarkets. Most are used within the catering supply chain; however, some eggs may also be sold at small shops such as corner shops.
