Asda, Sainsbury's, Next issue urgent recalls over risks

Major UK retailers have issued food and product recall notices this week, with customers urged not to use the items due to health risks. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned about a packaging error for snacks sold at Asda and Sainsbury's, and has urged customers to check codes on eggs after Salmonella was found. Meanwhile, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued an alert for products sold at Next.

Asda and Sainsbury's snacks recalled over allergy risk

Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars have been recalled from Asda and Sainsbury's stores after they were packaged in Skinny Whip Toffee bar wrappers, which do not declare peanuts as an ingredient. This means the product poses a potential health risk to anyone with a peanut allergy. As a result, the affected bars have been recalled from Asda and Sainsbury's customers.

The FSA said: "Halo Foods Ltd is recalling the above product and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall." Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product and on their website. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

It added: "If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to where you bought it from for a full refund."

Eggs recalled over Salmonella

UK households and businesses have been warned of Salmonella being found in eggs, which have originated from Yasensvit Ltd, Ukraine and are stamped with the code 3UA1012066. The FSA said all of the eggs should be removed from sale and not consumed.

It said: "All eggs with the code 3UA1012066 should be withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers. These eggs should not be consumed. Consumers should check the code stamped on the egg; do not eat eggs stamped with 3UA1012066. Instead, dispose of them at home."

These eggs are not sold in large retailers, like supermarkets. Most are used within the catering supply chain; however, some eggs may also be sold at small shops such as corner shops. Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. Those with symptoms should stay away from work, school or nursery until they have stopped for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.

Next shoes recalled over injury risk

Mint Velvet's Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals, which are sold by Next, have been recalled due to an injury risk. The OPSS said: "The product presents a risk of injuries as the footbed can become detached from the wedge heel during use."

It added: "If the footbed unexpectedly became dislodged during use, the user could fall, leading to injuries. The products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005." The product has been recalled from end users by Next. Next has contacted consumers who purchased the heels directly. Owners are advised to stop using the product and follow the instructions sent by Next to arrange for a refund or replacement.
