Frankfurt Airport in Germany has become the first airport in the world to trial a groundbreaking technology designed to assist travellers with hearing loss. The airport is deploying Auracast, a Bluetooth broadcast audio feature, to relay gate information directly into compatible hearing aids and devices.
How the Auracast System Works
The innovative system is currently being tested at gates A16 and A17 in Terminal 1. It sends automated announcements, including boarding calls, gate changes, and delay notifications, straight to smartphones, headphones, hearing aids, and other assistive listening devices that support the technology.
Enhancing Clarity and Confidence
This initiative aims to improve clarity and boost confidence for the estimated 1.5 billion people globally who experience hearing loss. By reducing reliance on traditional loudspeakers, the technology supports the development of "silent airport concepts," creating a more peaceful and accessible travel environment.
