Man Utd Lead Race for Tonali as Newcastle Put Midfielder Up for Sale

Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Sandro Tonali after Newcastle United placed the midfielder on the transfer list, according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. The Red Devils are said to be frontrunners ahead of other Premier League clubs, with the 24-year-old open to a move to Old Trafford.

Newcastle are anticipating a substantial offer for Tonali, who joined the club from AC Milan in 2023 for a reported £55 million. The Magpies' valuation is believed to be in excess of £70 million, with some Italian sources suggesting the fee could reach £87 million (€100 million), which would make it a record-breaking transfer for United.

Tonali's departure appears likely after Newcastle failed to qualify for the Champions League next season. The midfielder, a boyhood Milan fan, has also attracted interest from several Serie A clubs, but their financial constraints may prevent them from meeting Newcastle's asking price.

United are prioritising midfield reinforcements this summer, with Casemiro confirmed to be leaving and Manuel Ugarte also potentially heading for the exit. The club's return to Champions League football after a two-year absence is expected to boost their ability to attract top talent.
