The search for the next James Bond is officially underway, with Amazon/MGM Studios announcing auditions have begun. After years of speculation, the studio has assembled a creative team including director Denis Villeneuve and screenwriter Steven Knight, with veteran casting director Nina Gold tasked with finding the new 007.
According to Bond experts, the new actor must embody five key qualities. First, he should be British or at least able to convincingly adopt a British accent. While Australian George Lazenby and Irishman Pierce Brosnan have played Bond before, an American actor is considered unacceptable. Screenwriter Bruce Feirstein told the BBC: 'The reason Bond is so loved internationally is specifically because he's not American.'
Second, the new Bond is likely to be younger than previous iterations, possibly under 30, to appeal to Gen Z audiences and sustain the franchise for a decade or more. This rules out older contenders like Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, and Tom Hardy. Frontrunners include Jacob Elordi, Louis Partridge, Harris Dickinson, David Jonsson, and Tom Blyth.
Third, the actor should not be too famous, as the role itself should be the star. Fourth, he must be able to portray a man of vast experience, as Bond is a former Royal Navy commander. Finally, he should be physically fit and charismatic, embodying the suave, sophisticated image of the secret agent.
Betting markets currently favour Jacob Elordi, fresh from his role as Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights (2026), while Louis Partridge has worked with Steven Knight on House of Guinness. The final decision rests with Nina Gold, who will sift through dozens of candidates to find the next 007.
