Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has made clear the club want to continue their squad rebuild during the transfer window, as they are linked with Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye. The Reds have been among several clubs monitoring the 18-year-old, who is reportedly valued at £42.7m.
Carrick's transfer message
United have not completed any significant signings since bringing in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans as part of their midfield reconstruction a month ago. The club have also recruited experienced goalkeeper Karl Darlow, alongside several young prospects, but Carrick has maintained that other new arrivals are required to help the team compete for major honours.
"We want more, we need more, we keep looking for how we can do that," he said. "Money's money, I get that. We feel like we have to be pushing for everything we're involved in, while being realistic of what the recent history's looked like over a period of time. For now, we've got to make the most of it, but we've got to push every boundary we can to be able to win again, basically. That's the challenge."
Mbaye boost emerges
United have received an encouraging boost in their pursuit of Mbaye, with Liverpool reportedly deciding to withdraw their interest in the PSG winger. The Merseyside outfit are targeting wide players following Mohamed Salah's departure from Anfield and are pursuing a move for Mbaye's teammate Bradley Barcola.
However, United's rivals have reportedly cooled their interest in a potential deal for Mbaye due to his £42.7m price tag. The teenager faces a battle for first-team opportunities at PSG, given the considerable number of forwards already at the club's disposal.
In a further positive development for United, the French club have agreed to sign Ferran Torres from Barcelona for a similar fee, potentially making a deal for Mbaye more achievable. Spanish publication AS reports that several other clubs, including Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Aston Villa, have also registered interest in Mbaye, who netted three goals in 29 appearances last season.
