An American content creator who sampled Greggs for the first time has declared one item superior to its American counterpart, even ranking it above the iconic sausage roll. YouTuber Brock, known for his Globetrotting Brock channel, visited the bakery chain after hearing it described as a 'British institution'.
First Impressions and the Menu Selection
Upon entering, Brock was struck by the aroma and the bustling atmosphere. He chose a bacon and sausage bap, a sausage roll, a steak bake, a jam doughnut, and a mint mocha. He noted that all the treats 'smell good' and observed how busy the store was.
Coffee and Breakfast Roll
Brock rated the limited-edition mint mocha 6.5 out of 10, saying it was 'good enough where I'd get it again because it's cheap enough.' The drink cost £2.80 as part of a meal deal with the sausage and bacon breakfast roll. He described the roll, priced at £4.15 with the drink, as having thick bread and scoring it a five out of 10, preferring a sandwich from an American bakery.
Steak Bake and Sausage Roll
The steak bake impressed him, with an 'extremely buttery and flakey' crust. He likened it to a 'big sausage roll' and gave it an eight out of 10, noting the steak was slightly chewy but the crust and gravy were excellent. The classic sausage roll scored a seven out of 10. Brock found the pastry 'a bit drier' than the steak bake but still flaky. He was surprised by the softness of the pork, which he said was milder in flavour than other sausage rolls he had tried in New Zealand and Australia.
The Standout Item: Jam Doughnut
Brock saved the best for last. After biting into the jam doughnut, he exclaimed: 'That's some really good jam in there.' He praised its sweetness and soft bread-like consistency, calling it 'one of the better jam doughnuts I've ever had' and 'better than in the US.' He awarded it an 8.5 out of 10.
Final Verdict
Concluding his review, Brock said: 'Honestly, Greggs actually surprised me. It's better than I thought it was going to be and the price is really decent.' His overall experience left him impressed with the bakery's offerings and value.
