Wetherspoons has confirmed it will open 11 new pubs before the end of 2026, with two locations in Scotland. The first Scottish opening will be The Red Gown at St Andrews University on September 4, followed by The William Chambers in Edinburgh on November 3.
New openings across the UK
The pub chain, which operates over 800 venues across the UK and Ireland, will open new sites in hotels, universities, airports, and university accommodation. The first opening is Home Farm in Hessle, Hull, on August 12.
Other UK openings include The Marshfield Bank Farm House in Crewe (September 1), The Heath Hotel in Southampton (September 8), The Belle Vue at Manchester Airport (September 8), The Cranborne Hundred in Ferndown (September 16), The Fletton Brick in Bedford (September 29), Piccadilly Hall in Piccadilly (October 13), and The Benjamin Franklin in Charing Cross (November 24).
International expansion
Wetherspoons will also open Sant Jordi at Barcelona Airport's Terminal 1 in November, though no exact date has been confirmed. This follows the company's first venture outside the UK with the Castell de Santa Bàrbera at Alicante Airport, which opened in February.
The Barcelona pub will offer Spanish-inspired design but will serve British classics like fry-ups and fish and chips, catering to British travellers.
Company background
Founded in 1979 by Tim Martin, Wetherspoons is known for converting unconventional premises like former banks and cinemas into pubs. The company said on its website that "each pub has its own design, character and personality, based on local history."
There are currently about 56 Wetherspoons pubs in Scotland. The firm is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.
