Westfield Shopping Centre Evacuated in Security Alert

Westfield shopping centre in east London was evacuated on Monday morning following a security alert. Police were called to the scene shortly before 7am, leading to a large cordon being put in place and crowds of shoppers and workers being led outside.

The shopping centre, along with the nearby Stratford train and Tube station, was evacuated as a precaution. Scotland Yard confirmed the incident was stood down shortly before 8.30am, but Westfield Avenue remains closed while investigations continue.

Pictures on social media showed large crowds of shoppers waiting behind the police cordon. The closure of Stratford underground station caused some delays, with British Transport Police warning passengers to be aware of overcrowding at the station.
