A woman from London has made £6,000 selling unwanted items on Vinted in just 12 months, and she credits her success to a simple trick: asking every buyer to leave a review. Polly Arrowsmit, 58, joined the second-hand fashion app after realising she had accumulated mountains of beauty products, toiletries and homeware she would never use.
After downsizing from a three-bedroom house to a smaller flat, she began selling items on Vinted. She quickly discovered that building trust was key. “I realised very quickly that it’s quite difficult to make sales with zero feedback,” she said. To overcome this, she priced items competitively, listed books for £1 each, and answered questions promptly and in detail to prove items were genuine.
Polly also writes handwritten notes to buyers asking for reviews, and follows up in the inbox if they don’t leave one. She uses neat packaging, like metallic padded envelopes, and often includes a small treat such as sweets or product samples. Speed is another priority: she posts items quickly, responds to messages fast, and accepts or declines offers without delay.
To keep up with Vinted’s algorithm, she posts two or three new listings a day instead of uploading everything at once. Her best-sellers include luxury brands like Neom candles and diffusers, which sell within minutes, and REN body oils, which she sells for around £20 each after buying a box of 40 for £9 apiece.
Polly has also branched out onto eBay, using cross-listing software to post items more easily. She now makes hundreds of pounds a month on top of her Vinted earnings. The money from her side hustle is going towards her upcoming move to another flat in Islington. “What started as a way to clear out my cupboards has turned into a proper money-maker,” she said.
