A British father of two has died after falling from a sixth-floor balcony at a hotel in Torremolinos, Spain. The 37-year-old man was staying at the Sandos Griego Hotel with his wife and two young children, both under the age of 10, when the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene after reports that a man had fallen from a balcony. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The man's wife told police that she had gone to bed after the couple shared a few drinks, leaving him alone on the balcony, and she believes the fall was accidental.
Wayne Ward, a musician based in the Costa del Sol, was at the hotel with friends when the tragedy happened. He said: 'I'd only been there about half an hour when a person came running in to say someone had died. Three police cars were outside pretty sharpish along with an ambulance and then I saw a woman in her pyjamas who looked like she was in a state of shock that turned out to be the dead man's partner.'
The National Police in Malaga confirmed they are investigating the death. A Foreign Office spokesperson said: 'We are providing support to the family of a British man who died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.' The hotel, part of Sandos Hotels & Resorts, has been contacted but is not commenting at this time.
