Supermarket Ketchups Beat Heinz and Cost £1 Less

A recent taste test compared supermarket ketchups from Asda, Aldi, Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury's, Lidl, and Tesco against Heinz tomato ketchup. Surprisingly, two cheaper alternatives outperformed the iconic brand.

Lidl

Lidl's Batt's original tomato ketchup was rated the worst, scoring 0/10. Priced at £1.19, it was described as bland and lacking flavour.

Aldi

Aldi's Bramwell's tomato ketchup, a reduced salt and sugar version, received a 3/10. At 89p, it was cheap but lacked the flavour of top contenders.

Heinz

Heinz scored 8.5/10 at £2. It was praised as rich and tomatoey with a thick consistency, but its higher price pushed it down the rankings.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's ketchup earned 7/10 at £1.10. It offered strong flavour and good consistency, though it didn't make the top three.

Tesco

Tesco's ketchup scored 9/10 at £1.15. Tasters found it very similar to Heinz, with slightly less salt and sugar, making it a recommended alternative.

Marks and Spencer

M&S ketchup impressed with a 9.5/10 at 95p. It was thicker, richer in colour, and packed with flavour, ideal for burgers or bold dishes.

Asda

Asda's ketchup topped the test with a perfect 10/10 at £1.05. Its sweet and tangy flavour, reminiscent of chip shop ketchup, made it the favourite.

Overall, Asda and M&S ketchups were deemed better than Heinz and cost about £1 less, offering excellent value for money.
