Starbucks Launches Vegan Protein Coffee Range in US and Canada

Starbucks has introduced a new line of 'Protein Blended Cold Brews', combining cold coffee with plant-based protein. The drinks are currently available only in the United States and Canada, and are entirely vegan, using rice and pea protein instead of whey.

The range comes in two flavours: Almond and Cacao. The Almond version contains almond milk and almond butter, while the Cacao variant uses coconut milk and cacao powder. Both include a 'Banana Date Fruit Blend' and ice.

Nutritionally, the Almond Protein Blended Cold Brew has 270 calories, 12g of protein, 12g of fat, and 30g of carbohydrates (22g sugar). The Cacao edition contains 280 calories, 11g protein, 13g fat, and 32g carbs (25g sugar). Customers can customise their drinks, such as swapping the fruit blend for a whole banana or adjusting the espresso count.

Priced at $5.95 (around £4.70), the drinks contain ingredients like corn starch and xanthan gum. Some may question their health benefits, and making a similar drink at home could be a more cost-effective and fibre-rich alternative.
