Aldi Self-Checkout Warning: Shoppers Urged to Check Discounts Are Applied

Aldi customers have been warned that promotional discounts may not automatically apply when using self-checkout tills. Shoppers have reported that offers such as percentage-off stickers and multibuy deals are not deducted by the system, requiring staff at kiosks to manually add them.

One customer highlighted the issue on a Facebook group for Aldi shoppers, stating: 'Any discounts don’t automatically apply on the self-checkouts. You have to ask a human employee to take the discounts off manually. This applies for % off stickers and any multibuys etc. I don’t know if this is common knowledge.'

Other group members echoed the concern, with some claiming they had missed out on savings. One shopper wrote: 'I’ve had a few missed then realised!!' Another branded the lack of signage to alert customers as 'disgusting'.

An Aldi spokesperson confirmed that staff do need to manually apply discounts but said feedback on self-checkout systems has been 'overwhelmingly positive'. They advised any customer who believes they have been overcharged to contact customer services.

This is not the first time Aldi's checkout process has drawn attention. The supermarket is known for its fast-paced cashiers, who are timed on their scanning speed. A former cashier explained on Reddit that staff must scan at least 83% of items per minute, with some stores requiring 95% or higher, and that failure to meet targets could lead to retraining or dismissal.
