Sainsbury's Urgent 'Do Not Eat' Warning Issued For Popular Product Over Safety Fears
Sainsbury's urgent 'do not eat' warning for salmon product

Sainsbury's has issued an urgent 'do not eat' warning to shoppers who have purchased a specific batch of its premium smoked salmon, prompting an immediate product recall over food safety concerns.

The supermarket giant is alerting customers about its Taste the Difference Oak Smoked Scottish Salmon (120g) with a use-by date of February 28, 2024, after discovering the product may contain listeria monocytogenes.

What Customers Need to Know

The affected products have been available in stores across the United Kingdom. Listeria infection can cause serious illness, particularly among vulnerable groups including pregnant women, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems.

Sainsbury's has advised all customers who have purchased the affected product to:

  • Immediately stop consuming the smoked salmon
  • Return the product to their nearest Sainsbury's store
  • Receive a full refund without needing the original receipt

Official Statement and Consumer Advice

In an official notice, Sainsbury's stated: "We are recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all stores selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has confirmed the recall, emphasizing that while symptoms caused by listeria can be similar to flu-like illness, more serious complications can occur in vulnerable groups.

Customers with health concerns are advised to contact their GP or NHS 111 for medical advice. This incident marks another significant food recall in the UK retail sector, highlighting ongoing challenges in food safety management.
