Primark is facing backlash from shoppers after a woman reported being walked in on by two men while using a unisex changing room. Charlotte Kirby shared her experience on TikTok, describing how she was left visibly shaken after two men pulled back her curtain during her visit. The video has sparked a heated debate online, with many calling for a boycott of the retailer.
Critics argue that the policy puts women at risk. Vikki Lax tweeted: “If your ‘inclusivity’ leaves young women vulnerable, in tears, fearful and excluding themselves from everyday experiences you really need to look again.” Others echoed similar concerns, demanding lockable cubicles or a return to gender-segregated facilities.
However, some customers defended Primark, emphasising that the issue lies with the men's behaviour rather than the policy. @TheRockFairyHQ said: “The changing rooms aren’t the issue, the men who did this are.” Supporters urged against using the incident to fuel transphobia.
A Primark spokesperson said: “We are really sorry to hear of this customer’s experience. It shouldn’t have happened and we’re urgently investigating. We are currently reviewing our approach to fitting rooms in our stores to ensure these are always safe and inclusive spaces for everyone.”
