McDonald's has removed its newly launched Caramel Loaded McFlurry from menus across the UK following a wave of customer complaints about the dessert's texture. The fast-food chain cited a 'quality control issue' as the reason for the withdrawal, just days after the item was introduced on September 10 as part of its seasonal menu.
The Caramel Loaded McFlurry featured soft dairy ice cream swirled with caramel cubes, white chocolate-covered shortbread pieces, and milk chocolate chips, topped with caramel sauce. However, many customers reported that the caramel cubes were excessively hard, making the dessert unpleasant to eat.
One customer, Helen Richards, took to Facebook to warn others, stating: 'Be careful the caramel bits in it are rock hard.' On Reddit, user @juiceforsyth compared the experience to 'gnawing on a roof tile'. Despite the backlash, some customers, like Reddit user @Adventurous_Low_8497, expressed enjoyment of the hard caramel pieces.
A McDonald's spokesperson confirmed the removal to Belfast Live on September 17, saying: 'We are aware of a quality control issue relating to the Caramel Loaded McFlurry and can confirm that the item has been removed from our menu. At McDonald's, we place a strong emphasis on quality control and are disappointed by any instance where we fall short of our standards. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.'
