Manchester United have already confirmed seven player departures this summer, with three more first-team stars expected to follow them out of the exit door. Michael Carrick is reshaping his squad after being appointed permanent manager, and the next few months promise to be hectic at Old Trafford as the club seeks to strengthen ahead of a gruelling campaign.
Seven Players Already Gone
Casemiro's exit was confirmed during the campaign. The 34-year-old midfielder scored nine league goals last season, and finding a replacement has been crucial. Atalanta midfielder Ederson has already agreed to join United to bolster the midfield options.
Jadon Sancho's stint as a United player has also ended after his contract expired, five years on from his marquee arrival from Borussia Dortmund. The 26-year-old was unable to replicate his best performances for the Red Devils and was loaned out to Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa after slipping down the pecking order.
Tyrell Malacia was among the first-team players to leave this summer after managing just three league outings last term. Academy prospects Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey and Malachi Sharpe are also beginning fresh chapters after being released.
United confirmed striker Rasmus Hojlund's permanent transfer to Napoli before the summer window formally opened earlier this month. The 23-year-old spent the campaign on loan at the Italian outfit, and a £38million clause was activated after Antonio Conte's side secured Champions League football.
Three More Set to Leave
Marcus Rashford faces an uncertain future. The forward netted 14 goals and contributed 14 assists during his loan spell at Barcelona, but the Catalan giants chose not to activate their £26m purchase option. Barcelona's signing of Anthony Gordon in Rashford's position has cast doubt over whether the United star will feature at the Camp Nou next season. While he could be brought back into Carrick's squad, a strong performance for England at the World Cup could drive up his market value.
Andre Onana may also complete a permanent departure following last season's loan spell at Trabzonspor. The Cameroon international was replaced as first choice at Old Trafford last year, with Senne Lammens now occupying that role, but he became a supporters' favourite at Trabzonspor after lifting the Turkish Cup. Club president Ertugrul Dogan is optimistic that Onana will remain, stating: 'I think Andre Onana will stay with the team. We've met his financial demands.'
Joshua Zirkzee is another player United may consider offloading. The forward has struggled to secure consistent game time since his switch from Bologna in 2024. The 25-year-old featured 26 times across all competitions last season, finding the net twice, but was handed just five starts. His limited playing time meant he missed out on a place in the Netherlands' World Cup squad.
