Lola faux fur blankets have taken social media by storm, promising 'life-changing softness' for £275 (approximately $275) for a throw-sized blanket. But are they worth the hefty price tag?
Textile experts have tested the blanket and found that while it boasts advantages such as double-sided Oeko-Tex certified faux fur and a dense, luxurious feel, many of its claims are overblown. The blanket's origin story, centred on Amy 'Lola' Higham, who left each of her children a blanket after her death from breast cancer, adds an emotional appeal. The company continues to support breast cancer charities.
Yet, a cheaper dupe exists. The Bedsure Gentlesoft Bubble Faux Fur Blanket, made from almost identical polyester material, costs less than half the price and is 10 inches longer. While it is slightly less dense (750 GSM versus 850 GSM) and single-sided, the difference is negligible. For the average person, the Bedsure offers comparable softness and warmth at a fraction of the cost.
Other alternatives include faux fur bubble blankets from Cozy Earth, CB2, and Quince, the latter made from 100% recycled polyester. Experts suggest looking for blankets with a GSM of over 500 and a good return policy. Meanwhile, Lola's charitable work through 'Blankets for the Brave' and donations to the Huntsman Cancer Institute are commendable, but consumers can also donate directly to these causes and save money.
