John Lewis is set to invest £20 million in a major upgrade of its Glasgow store, marking one of the company's largest single-store investments. The department store chain confirmed the full redevelopment of the 28,000-square-metre store in Buchanan Galleries, which will introduce new brands, elevated products, and enhanced experiences tailored to customer needs.
Comprehensive Refurbishment Plans
Every floor of the Glasgow store will be upgraded, with changes coming to fashion, beauty, home, and technology departments. The store will remain open during the refurbishment, which is expected to be completed in spring 2027.
Local and National Impact
Kathy Murdoch, centre director for Buchanan Galleries at Landsec, welcomed the investment as a powerful vote of confidence in Glasgow. She noted that it complements Landsec's own plans to enhance the retail and leisure offer at Buchanan Galleries, supporting Glasgow's growth as a leading UK destination.
John Lewis is also investing multi-million-pound sums in its Cambridge, Leicester, and Reading stores, with further enhancements planned for the Liverpool store following a major investment last year.
CEO's Vision
Peter Ruis, managing director of John Lewis, stated that the investments aim to reflect what customers value most: expert guidance, inspiring products, and the confidence to make the right choice. He emphasized that these upgrades are about creating places where customers love to spend their time, building on positive customer responses to previous improvements.
