Home Bargains is selling a compact plug-in heater for £9.99 that costs roughly 13p per hour to run, offering households a cheaper alternative to central heating as energy bills rise.
The discount retailer, which operates more than 600 stores across the UK, is stocking the Pifco Plug-In Heater. The device plugs directly into a wall socket and features two heat settings, an adjustable thermostat and a timer function. Built-in overheat protection is designed to add a safety measure.
Energy price cap rise
The product arrives after Ofgem's latest energy price cap increase took effect on October 1. The cap has risen by 4 per cent, meaning a typical household paying by Direct Debit for gas and electricity could see annual energy costs rise from £1,663 to £1,723.
That represents roughly £60 more per year compared with the previous cap, or about £5 a month based on Ofgem's typical use figure. The regulator said higher wholesale gas prices, driven by volatility in global markets, are the main reason for the rise, although the removal of VAT from domestic electricity bills has helped slightly.

Running at 500W, the heater would cost around 13p per hour to run continuously under the current price cap. It should not be left on at all times.
Home Bargains described the product: "Stay warm and toasty with the Pifco Plug-In Heater 500w! This compact and portable heater plugs directly into any wall socket, offering instant heat with adjustable settings and a handy timer - perfect for those chilly days."
