The latest wave of high street closures across the UK sees Halifax, TGI Fridays, TG Jones, Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and Regatta shutting branches this October, driven by rising costs, online shopping and changing customer habits.
TG Jones confirms three store closures
TG Jones has announced further closures following the approval of its restructuring plan that puts 150 stores at risk. Its Dorking branch in Surrey will close its doors for the last time on October 10, marking the 23rd closure this month alone.
The Leatherhead and Didcot locations are also set to shutter next year on January 9. The now-confirmed proposals unlock an extra £15 million loan from the company’s owners, Modella Capital, which follows a £10 million loan in April, and reduced rents for landlords.

Lloyds and Bank of Scotland branch closures
Lloyds has said its closures are being driven largely by a decline in the number of customers visiting its branches, as more people choose to manage their finances through online and mobile banking.
The banking group says it is still committed to providing face-to-face services, with customers able to access support through community bankers and shared banking hubs in areas affected by branch closures.

A TGI Fridays restaurant in the heart of Glasgow city centre is set to close its doors later this month after its landlord decided to end the chain's tenancy. The restaurant, located at Tontine House on Buchanan Street, has been a fixture of the Glasgow's high street for 33 years. However, the popular restaurant will close on October 19 following a decision by the landlord to bring TGI Fridays' tenancy at the site to an end.
A spokesperson for TGI Fridays confirmed the closure to the Glasgow Times, stressing that the decision was not made voluntarily by the restaurant chain. They said: "TGI Fridays can confirm that our Buchanan Street restaurant will close on October 19th following a decision by the landlord to bring our tenancy at the site to an end. This is not a decision we have taken voluntarily, and we are disappointed to be leaving Buchanan Street after many years of serving the Glasgow community. Our focus is on supporting our team and protecting as many jobs as possible."
Regatta store closure
The popular outdoor clothing brand is set to close one of its UK stores after 10 years of trading at a major retail and leisure destination. Regatta will shut its store at Trentham Estate on Sunday, October 11, following the end of its current lease. A closing down sale is underway, giving shoppers the chance to pick up items from the outdoor clothing and footwear retailer before the store closes its doors for good.
Three members of staff currently work at the Trentham store. Regatta said it will work with its employees to find alternative roles where possible. Jimmy Reynolds, Regatta's Brand and Commercial Director, told Daily Focus: "We can confirm that, regrettably, our Trentham store will close on 11 October following the end of our current lease. We'd like to thank our Trentham customers and colleagues for all their support over the last 10 years. We will work with our team members to find alternative opportunities where possible, and customers can continue to visit our nearby stores in Talke and Bridgemere."
