Clean Bandit Star Quits Music For Property With Chancellor Wife

Clean Bandit, the British electronic music group known for hits like 'Rather Be' and 'Rockabye', has seen one of its founding members leave the music industry to pursue a career in property development alongside his wife, who is a chancellor. The band, which has amassed over 4 billion global streams, remains one of the UK's most successful acts, yet its members often go unrecognised.

Cellist Grace Chatto and producer Jack Patterson, who were once in a relationship, continue to lead the group. However, Jack's brother Luke, the drummer, noted that most people don't know much about the band. Despite their fame, Jack Patterson is frequently mistaken for tennis player Andy Murray.

The band formed in 2008 after Jack Patterson added electronic beats to classical string quartet pieces performed by Grace Chatto and Neil Amin-Smith. Their breakthrough came with 'Rather Be' in 2014, which won a Grammy and spent four weeks at number one in the UK. Subsequent hits include 'Rockabye', featuring Sean Paul, and 'Symphony' with Zara Larsson.

Clean Bandit's success relies heavily on collaborations with high-profile vocalists, leading to a lack of public awareness about the band itself. Grace Chatto commented that most people don't have any perceptions of them as a band. The group's second album, 'What Is Love?', features a wide range of artists, from Ellie Goulding to Big Boi.

Despite their commercial achievements, the band remains grounded. Grace Chatto recalled the early days when they couldn't afford the tube and had to hustle to get their music played on MTV and radio. Their journey from Cambridge graduates to global pop sensations has been marked by both musical innovation and personal changes.
