TikTok Star's $4,000 Hair Appointment Sparks Viral Backlash
$4k Hair Appointment Sparks Viral TikTok Backlash

A social media storm has erupted after a TikTok creator documented her deeply disappointing experience with a celebrity hairdresser, an appointment that cost a staggering $4,216.61.

The $4,000 Hair Appointment That Went Viral

The client, known online as @notfamous808, visited Habit Salon, a establishment popular with influencers that has locations in Arizona and California. She sought the services of Chrissy Rasmussen, the stylist behind the 'Hair by Chrissy' TikTok account which boasts 3.5 million followers. Rasmussen proudly charges $4,000 for a hair appointment, with the salon's extension pricing starting at $1,500.

However, the experience fell far short of expectations. The client, who wanted almost white hair, ended up with a darker platinum shade. More alarmingly, she claimed that Chrissy herself 'might've touched my hair for 60 seconds' and was largely absent during the process. Instead, she alleges that around ten other employees worked on her hair, leading to a disjointed experience where, she said, 'they're all kind of on different pages.'

Disputed Charges and A Clash of Merchandise

The disappointment extended to the final bill. The receipt, which she shared online, included $152.50 for products like shampoo, treatment, detangler, and serum. The client claimed she 'had no idea' she had purchased these items and assumed they were complimentary when a stylist bagged them for her.

In the wake of the viral videos, a social media showdown has begun. While Chrissy has not issued an official statement, she has posted videos on her TikTok story, one captioned 'Chrissy doing hair', seemingly in her own defence. She is also releasing merchandise that reads 'Hair in 4K,' referencing the controversial price point.

In a direct response, the displeased creator has launched her own merch line, Beckon Clothing. Her hoodies and T-shirts, priced between $35 and $50, carry the message: 'Kindness is worth more than 4k.'

A History of Controversy

This is not the first time Chrissy Rasmussen has faced public scrutiny. In 2020, her salon received backlash for openly defying California's mask mandate during the pandemic, with clients like The Bachelor's Amanda Stanton travelling to her Arizona location during lockdown.

The incident has sparked a fierce debate online, with commenters suggesting the client dispute the credit card charges and others expressing shock at the initial cost. The saga highlights the potent mix of influencer culture, high-stakes consumerism, and the power of social media to hold brands accountable.
