All Star Lanes, the celebrity-frequented bowling alley bar in Manchester city centre, has shut down with immediate effect. The venue at the Great Northern Warehouse had reopened as a bar and restaurant after lockdown restrictions were eased but could not resume bowling under current government guidelines.
The American-style diner and tenpin lanes opened in 2013 and hosted stars including Rihanna, Drake, Lady Gaga, and the cast of Coronation Street. The site was rescued after the company entered administration last year but has now closed permanently.
Bowling alleys were due to reopen on August 1, but the easing was delayed to at least August 15. The government has yet to confirm whether they can reopen from Saturday alongside theatres, music venues, and casinos.
All Star Lanes had published safety guidance including screens between lanes and regular cleaning of bowling balls. The group’s Manchester location was its first outside London, where it still operates four venues.
Trilogy Real Estate, owner of the Great Northern Warehouse, expressed sadness at the closure, noting efforts to keep the site operational after last year’s pre-pack administration.
