Breast Milk Ice Cream Sparks London Debate
Breast Milk Ice Cream Sparks London Debate

A restaurant in London's Covent Garden has launched a new ice cream made from breast milk, sparking debate among customers and health officials. The dessert, named Baby Gaga, is produced using donations from local mother Victoria Hiley and is served with a rusk, with an optional shot of Calpol or Bonjela.

Mrs Hiley, 35, expressed her milk on site, which was then pasteurised and churned with Madagascan vanilla pods and lemon zest. She believes that if adults realised how tasty breast milk is, more new mothers would be encouraged to breastfeed. She receives £15 for every 10 ounces she donates, calling it a great 'recession beater'.

Icecreamists founder Matt O'Connor placed an advert for breast milk donations and defended the product, saying: 'If it's good enough for our children, it's good enough for the rest of us.' He added that some people might find it off-putting, but it is 'pure organic, free-range and totally natural'.

O'Connor noted that 14 other women have offered to donate, and health checks for donors are the same as those used by hospitals for blood donors. He claimed that 'no-one's done anything interesting with ice cream in the last hundred years'.
