Boston Pub Stocking Up for England Fans After Scotland World Cup Boom
Boston Pub Prepares for England Fans After Scotland Surge

The Dubliner, an Irish pub in Boston that became a focal point for Scotland supporters during the World Cup, is now preparing for an influx of England fans by renting extra fridges and bringing in additional staff from sister bars across the city.

Scotland's Impact on Business

Bar manager Brian McDonnell said the Tartan Army had transformed business at the pub, even on typically quiet days. “On a Monday now, we still have a queue down the street, we have full staff, we have record numbers,” he said. The pub saw a massive increase in customers every day during Scotland’s opening two matches in Massachusetts.

McDonnell praised Scotland supporters, noting they caused no problems despite heavy drinking. “I don’t think we’ve had to kick out a single person. There’s been no scraps, no malice from anyone,” he said.

Preparations for England Fans

With England fans arriving ahead of the Three Lions’ match against Ghana on Tuesday, McDonnell said the pub has taken steps to meet demand. “We had to rent a couple of mobile fridge units that we have out in the back alley so we always have beer rotating through,” he explained. The venue has also brought in extra staff from other bars in Boston to help cope with the expected surge.

McDonnell said he expects England fans to match the Scots’ drinking habits but hopes they follow their good behaviour. “The Scots have really set a high standard with regard to the party but also just their behaviour,” he added.

Boost for Boston's Profile

The World Cup has provided a significant boost for Boston’s international profile, according to McDonnell. “On the PR side, it’s like everywhere we looked on the media, our name was being mentioned – we were getting shared all across the world,” he said. He noted that visitors have told him the trip was one of the best vacations they ever took.

Actor John Ratzenberger, known for playing Cliff Clavin in the sitcom Cheers, also welcomed England supporters, telling the Daily Star: “Cheers England! You can go all the way. England has the players, the passion, and an entire nation ready to carry that trophy home.”
