Asda's £1 Winter Warmer Deal for Over-60s Ends in February

Asda's £1 Winter Warmer Initiative for Over-60s Concludes in February

Asda has announced that its £1 Winter Warmer meal deal, available exclusively to customers aged 60 and over, will end on Saturday, 28 February. This initiative, launched in November 2025 across 212 Asda cafes nationwide, offers a budget-friendly meal to help older adults cope with the financial pressures of winter.

Details of the Asda Winter Warmer Deal

The deal includes a choice of chicken or tomato soup, served with bread, and unlimited refills of tea or coffee, all for just £1. Jordan Cummings, Buying Manager for Cafes and Concessions at Asda, emphasised that winter can be "incredibly hard" for many people as they struggle to stay warm amid rising living costs. He highlighted that Asda cafes not only provide affordable food but also offer "a relaxed social environment to come and chat to others," fostering community connections during the colder months.

Since its introduction, the meal deal has received positive feedback on social media, with users praising Asda for the initiative. Comments on platforms like Facebook included remarks such as "Well done, Asda" and "I'll have to try that." However, some customers, like Hazel Smyth, expressed disappointment due to a lack of Asda stores in their area, prompting suggestions that other supermarkets like Tesco might consider similar offers.

Comparison with Other Supermarket Promotions

While Asda focuses on supporting older adults, other major UK supermarkets are running their own cafe promotions. Tesco, for instance, allows children to eat for free in its cafes when an adult makes any purchase, but this offer is limited to school holidays and requires a Tesco Clubcard for eligibility. According to Netmums, the upcoming half-term break from 16 to 20 February is a key period for this deal.

Morrisons is also catering to over-60s with a £6 cooked breakfast that includes unlimited hot drink refills. Additionally, children can enjoy a complimentary meal when accompanied by an adult spending at least £5 on their own food. However, Morrisons is planning to close around 52 in-store cafes as part of its 2026 restructuring efforts, which could result in over 360 redundancies, potentially affecting the availability of such offers in the future.

Asda continues to support families with another scheme, enabling children to enjoy a meal for just £1 without any requirement for adult spending, showcasing the retailer's broader commitment to affordability.

Urgency for Customers to Act

With only a few weeks remaining until the end of February, Asda is urging eligible customers to take advantage of the Winter Warmer deal before it concludes. This initiative not only addresses immediate financial needs but also promotes social interaction, making it a valuable resource during the winter season. As the deadline approaches, older shoppers are encouraged to visit their local Asda cafe to benefit from this limited-time offer.
