Asda Slashes Prices on 2,300 Items, Beats Rivals' Loyalty Card Offers
Asda Cuts Prices on 2,300 Products in Major Price Pledge

Supermarket giant Asda has launched an aggressive new price promise, slashing the cost of more than 2,300 everyday products. The retailer now claims its standard prices are lower than the loyalty card prices offered by its main rivals, Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Morrisons.

A Direct Challenge to Rivals

The sweeping price reductions cover a vast range of essential goods. Fresh meat, produce, chilled items, core grocery lines, and bakery products are all included in the initiative, which Asda has branded its 'Asda Price' guarantee. The move is a direct challenge to competitors who increasingly use loyalty schemes to offer lower prices.

In a further incentive for shoppers, Asda has also revealed a January bonus for its Rewards members. Throughout the month, customers will receive 10% back into their Asda Rewards Cashpot on all fresh produce bought in-store, providing additional savings on top of the lower shelf prices.

Post-Christmas Relief for Household Budgets

Rachel Eyre, Chief Customer Officer at Asda, explained the rationale behind the price push. "We know many families are feeling the pinch post-Christmas and it can be difficult to get household budgets back on track," she said. "We want to help by giving them the lowest prices on the products they buy the most. Asda Price means great value with clear and consistent pricing which is available to everyone without the need for a loyalty card."

The bold strategy follows a difficult festive period for the UK's third-largest supermarket. According to data from analysts Worldpanel, Asda's market share fell to 11.4% in the 12 weeks to December 28. Its sales dropped by 4.2%, making it the only major grocer to suffer a decline over Christmas. This period marked Asda's 22nd consecutive month of falling sales.

Meanwhile, rivals Tesco and Sainsbury's strengthened their positions, widening their lead over Asda. The competitive pressure was highlighted just this week when Tesco announced its own 'Everyday Low Prices' campaign, pledging to keep costs down on 3,000 branded items.

Examples of the New Asda Price Cuts

The scale of the reductions is significant across many popular brands. Here are some specific examples provided by Asda:

  • Pampers Baby Dry Size 3 (50 pack): £6 at Asda, compared to £11 at the nearest competitor.
  • Philadelphia Soft Cheese (165g): £1 at Asda, down from £1.35.
  • Warburtons Tiger Bread Bloomer (600g): £1.40 at Asda, versus £1.65 elsewhere.
  • Ariel The Big One PODS (21 pack): £6 at Asda, a major saving on the £12 competitor price.
  • Nestle Cheerios Multigrain (800g): £3 at Asda, reduced from £3.80.

This major price investment represents a clear attempt by Asda to win back customers and regain momentum in the fiercely competitive UK supermarket price war. By removing the need for a loyalty card to access the best deals, Asda is betting on simplicity and transparent value to attract budget-conscious shoppers in 2026.
