A major fire has torn through an industrial unit in northwest London, with more than 100 firefighters racing to the scene to battle the fierce blaze.
The dramatic incident unfolded in Wembley on Friday afternoon, sending huge plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky that could be seen from miles around. Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were initially dispatched to the scene on Chapter Road as the scale of the emergency became apparent.
Rapid Emergency Response
London Fire Brigade confirmed they were called at 3:08 PM to reports of a fire involving a single-storey industrial unit. Fire crews from Wembley, Park Royal, Willesden, and other surrounding stations rushed to the scene as the blaze rapidly intensified.
Station Commander Dan Capon, who was at the scene, described the severity of the situation: "This is a significant fire affecting an industrial unit and firefighters are working hard to bring it under control."

Eyewitnesses reported seeing dense black smoke rising high above the northwest London skyline, with the acrid smell detectable some distance from the actual fire location. Local residents and businesses were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke.
The fire involved a substantial industrial premises, though the exact nature of the business affected hasn't been immediately confirmed. Fire investigators will begin their work once the blaze is fully extinguished and the area is made safe.
Ongoing Operations
As of Friday evening, fire crews remained at the scene working to fully extinguish the blaze and damp down hot spots. Road closures were implemented in the immediate area to allow emergency services to operate safely and effectively.
London Ambulance Service crews were also on standby, though there have been no immediate reports of any casualties. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage and will be subject to thorough investigation once the emergency response phase concludes.
