Kelechi Iheanacho has reportedly agreed a move to Turkish club Bursaspor, ending Celtic's hopes of bringing the striker back to Parkhead. The 29-year-old Nigerian international, whose contract with Celtic expired after the 2025-26 season, is set to sign a three-year deal with the newly-promoted side.
Iheanacho was a key figure in Celtic's historic title triumph last season, scoring crucial winners against Dundee, Hibernian and Motherwell in the final Premiership run-in. He also netted in the Scottish Cup final victory over Dunfermline, cementing his status as a fan favourite.
Fitness Concerns and Manager's Interest
Despite his impact, Iheanacho struggled to prove his fitness to manager Martin O'Neill, who admitted he was keen to bring the forward back for the upcoming season. Last week, during Celtic's pre-season camp in Portugal, O'Neill indicated progress in negotiations: "I think there has been - yeah. I think Michael Nicholson has spoken to Iheanacho's agent at this minute. So that's the conversation at this moment."
Turkish Reports Confirm Deal
However, according to Turkish journalist Ertan Süzgün of Yeni Açık, Iheanacho has now agreed terms with Bursaspor, who have returned to the Turkish Super Lig after promotion. The deal is expected to be announced imminently, ending Celtic's pursuit of the former Manchester City and Leicester City star.
Iheanacho's departure leaves Celtic needing to reinforce their attacking options ahead of the new season, with the club still seeking a reliable goalscorer to complement their squad.
