18th Century Scarborough Windmill Sells for £695k as Luxury Flats
Historic Scarborough windmill for sale at £695,000

A remarkable piece of North Yorkshire's heritage, an 18th-century windmill in Scarborough, has been listed for sale with a price tag of £695,000. This iconic structure, which narrowly escaped demolition decades ago, now operates as a profitable and unique hospitality business.

From Corn Mill to Coastal Luxury

Believed to have been originally constructed as a corn mill in 1784, the windmill stands on a site where mills have been operational for an incredible half a millennium. The 60ft tall building has a rich history, having changed hands multiple times over the centuries.

Its six sails were removed in 1898 when it transitioned to engine power, and it finally ceased operations as a mill in 1927, subsequently falling into a state of disrepair.

A Phoenix Risen: The Modern Transformation

In the 1980s, the windmill's future looked bleak when it was earmarked for demolition. However, a determined local campaign successfully saved the landmark, paving the way for its stunning conversion.

Today, the property boasts 11 bedrooms and ten bathrooms spread across luxury holiday apartments. One of its most distinctive features is a bespoke circular kitchen located in the base of the former mill. For the ultimate experience, a balcony suite offers breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of the coastal town.

A Rare Investment Opportunity

Estate agents Silver Tree are marketing the Grade II listed property, highlighting its rarity and commercial potential. A spokesperson for the firm described it as a 'truly rare opportunity to acquire Scarborough's only surviving windmill'.

They emphasised that buyers are not just purchasing a building, but a 'profitable and highly distinctive hospitality business' steeped in over two centuries of local history. This unique offering allows someone to own one of the town's most recognisable and cherished historical structures.
