TikTok Viral Trends Trigger Unprecedented Cottage Cheese Sales Surge
Scottish dairy company Graham's Family Dairy has announced a substantial £3.5 million investment in its Fife production site, aimed at dramatically increasing cottage cheese output. This strategic expansion is a direct response to what the company describes as "all-time record demand" for the retro dairy product, largely fueled by viral food trends on social media platform TikTok.
Production Boost and Job Creation in Fife
The investment will enable Graham's Family Dairy to ramp up cottage cheese production by an impressive 50 per cent. Additionally, this expansion is set to create 25 new local jobs, providing a significant economic boost to the Fife region. The company's managing director highlighted that the cottage cheese business has now overtaken their traditional milk operations in terms of commercial importance.
Social Media Driving Extraordinary Sales Growth
The remarkable surge in cottage cheese popularity can be traced directly to TikTok food trends that began gaining momentum around May 2023. Graham's has experienced a doubling of cottage cheese sales, while supermarket giant Tesco has reported an even more dramatic tripling of sales for the product. The managing director noted that "demand has gone into overdrive" as consumers embrace cottage cheese recipes and preparation methods showcased in viral TikTok videos.
Traditional Methods Meet International Markets
Graham's Family Dairy continues to produce its cottage cheese using a traditional open-vat process, maintaining quality while scaling up production. The increased output has enabled the company to begin exporting their cottage cheese to international markets, including the Gulf States and Hong Kong, marking a significant expansion of their global reach.
Recipe Innovation Fuels Continued Interest
The cottage cheese revival has been accompanied by creative recipe development, including protein-packed variations like cottage cheese egg salad. These innovative preparations have helped sustain consumer interest beyond the initial viral trend, suggesting the cottage cheese resurgence may represent more than just a passing fad in the dairy industry.
