easyJet Urges Passengers to Complete Two Key Pre-Travel Tasks
easyJet: Two Essential Pre-Travel Tasks for Passengers

easyJet is urging all passengers to complete two essential tasks before heading to the airport this summer. The airline has shared vital advice on its 'safety on your holiday' webpage, emphasizing the importance of these checks for UK travellers.

Get Comprehensive Travel Insurance

First, easyJet recommends that passengers take out comprehensive travel insurance at the time of booking. The airline states: 'We cannot stress enough how important it is to take out comprehensive travel insurance at the time of booking, to cover you in the event that something stops you going on holiday and of course while you’re away too.' Passengers are advised to check that their policy covers any activities or sports they may participate in. The cost of international healthcare can be significant, and insurance provides support to get the best care and facilitate repatriation if needed.

easyJet also suggests carrying a copy of the policy and saving the emergency assistance contact number in your mobile phone. It reminds travellers that a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) only covers basic state medical care in participating countries and does not include repatriation. A GHIC can be applied for free on the NHS website.

Share Travel Details with a Trusted Contact

Secondly, easyJet advises passengers to leave a copy of their travel details with a next of kin or emergency contact. This ensures someone knows your itinerary and can be reached in case of an emergency.

The UK GHIC allows holidaymakers to access necessary state healthcare in the European Economic Area (EEA) on the same basis as a local resident, which may be free or require a payment equivalent to what a resident would pay. The GHIC has replaced the EHIC; existing EHICs remain valid until their expiry date, after which a UK GHIC must be applied for. The GHIC is free and available to UK residents, who can also include family members in their application.

For more information, passengers can visit the NHS website to apply for a GHIC. easyJet's advice aims to ensure a safe and prepared holiday experience.
