A tragic workplace incident in South Houston, Texas, has claimed the life of a worker who became trapped beneath searing hot asphalt following a tank explosion at the Martin Asphalt facility on Wednesday afternoon.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time when a tank containing 50,000 gallons of asphalt, heated to 210 degrees Fahrenheit, suddenly ruptured. The resulting spill engulfed part of the facility, burying the employee under three feet of the scalding material.
