Manchester United have decided on a transfer fee for outcast Manuel Ugarte, with AC Milan monitoring the situation as new head coach Ruben Amorim looks to reunite with the midfielder.
Ugarte's United Struggle
Ugarte, who joined United from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024 for £42 million, has failed to impress at Old Trafford. He managed only 30 league appearances across two seasons and fell down the pecking order after Kobbie Mainoo regained his starting spot. Michael Carrick, now in charge, has informed Ugarte that he is not part of his long-term plans.
Milan and Amorim Interest
AC Milan, under new boss Ruben Amorim, are exploring a deal for the Uruguayan. Amorim previously coached Ugarte at Sporting and during his time at United, but the player never lived up to expectations. Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani is hesitant to meet United's £30 million asking price, though further talks are scheduled.
United's Midfield Reinforcements
United have already strengthened their midfield by signing Brazilian Ederson from Atalanta and are preparing a bid for West Ham's Mateus Fernandes. Ugarte, aware his time at the club is over, has tasked agent Jorge Mendes with securing a move.
World Cup Factor
Ugarte is currently at the World Cup with Uruguay, having started in their opening draw against Saudi Arabia. A strong tournament could boost his value. United hope to recoup a significant portion of the fee they paid for him.
