England fans bought over 5,000 beers from a single Texas pub, spending more than £30,000 as they prepared for the World Cup. The Three Lions supporters were in high spirits in Dallas, despite police pleas to move them on.
Police Intervene at Londoner Pub
Police officers pleaded with fans to move on from the Londoner pub in Dallas, but hundreds of traveling supporters stayed drinking ahead of England’s World Cup opener. The pub was eventually cleared just before 10pm, but many defied orders and remained on the balcony outside the building for another couple of hours.
Officers confirmed the early closure was due to the venue reaching maximum capacity, with only two security guards on duty. Despite some ignoring police orders, the majority of England fans were well-behaved and no arrests were made.
Beer Sales and Cleanup
Before closing its doors, the Londoner sold more than 5,000 beers, including 2,352 bottles, generating over £30,000. After supporters remained on the balcony, dozens of Dallas Police Department vehicles lined the road, with officers standing for about 20 minutes before moving away.
Fans then spent around an hour kicking a football in the street, with the ball occasionally hitting vehicles. A very small group dropped plants off the balcony edge. At the end of the evening, many England fans stayed to help bar staff clean up the mess.
Organiser Reflects on Event
Organiser John Gallivan, 39, from Bristol, said the scale of Texas made it harder for fans to find each other than in Europe. He explained the idea was to find a pub, get a beer deal, and advertise it. The event grew beyond his expectations after sharing on social media.
Mr Gallivan noted that many regular England supporters couldn't make the trip due to the cost, criticising FIFA's management. He is already looking ahead to England’s next group game in Boston, hoping to organise another gathering.
He also said England supporters received a warm welcome from Texans, contradicting the narrative that England is disliked.
