President Donald Trump and his top officials convened with oil and gas executives, including Chevron CEO Mike Wirth, at the White House on Tuesday to address the energy repercussions of the Iran war and other pressing matters. The gathering, as reported by Axios on Wednesday, comes at a time when American motorists are facing the highest fuel costs in four years.
Meeting Agenda and Attendees
The meeting was attended by White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. According to the Axios report, the agenda encompassed critical subjects such as domestic production, advancements in Venezuela, oil futures, natural gas, and shipping logistics.
In response to inquiries about the meeting, a White House spokesperson stated, “The president meets with energy executives frequently to get their feedback on domestic and international energy markets.”
Record Gas Prices
On Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of gasoline in the United States surged to $4.18, marking the highest level since 2022. This spike in fuel costs has placed additional financial strain on American households and businesses, intensifying the focus on energy policy and supply dynamics.
The administration’s engagement with industry leaders underscores the urgency of stabilizing energy markets amid geopolitical tensions and domestic production challenges. The outcomes of these discussions could influence future policy decisions regarding oil and gas extraction, international partnerships, and market regulation.
