Manchester United are preparing for a pivotal summer transfer window after securing their return to the Champions League. Michael Carrick's side currently sit third in the Premier League, and the interim manager has made a strong case for the permanent role by winning 10 of his 14 matches in charge. However, to compete at the highest level next season, the squad requires reinforcements, particularly in midfield.
Midfield Trio Added to Transfer Wishlist
According to reports, United have identified Bournemouth duo Tyler Adams and Alex Scott, along with West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, as potential targets to bolster their midfield. Casemiro has been outstanding for Carrick's side, but the club is seeking a long-term replacement as the Brazilian's time at Old Trafford appears to be drawing to a close.
Sky Sports reports that the club hopes to sign two central midfielders this summer. The trio joins a growing list of options, including Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, Brighton's Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, Newcastle's Sandro Tonali, and Wolves' Joao Gomes.
Summer Budget Becomes Clear
Manchester United are reportedly prepared to spend up to £150 million on new midfielders this summer. The Daily Mail states that the club has allocated £80 million for a direct replacement for Casemiro, with an additional £40 million available if Manuel Ugarte is sold. The possibility of recruiting three midfielders has not been ruled out.
Beyond midfield, United also aim to sign a left-back, centre-back, left-sided forward, and a backup goalkeeper in the upcoming window. The club's transfer budget has been boosted by qualifying for the Champions League, which provides significant financial rewards.
Other Targets
The list of midfield targets also includes Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni, along with the aforementioned Anderson, Baleba, Wharton, Tonali, and Gomes. United's recruitment team is working diligently to identify the best options to strengthen the squad for the challenges ahead.
