B&M shoppers are rushing to try a new flavour of Jammie Dodgers that has recently appeared on the shelves. The iconic British biscuit, known for its raspberry filling, now comes in an Orange variety, and foodies are eager to get their hands on them.
A Beloved Biscuit for Over Six Decades
Jammie Dodgers have been a staple in British biscuit tins since 1960. Originally produced by Burton's Biscuit Company at their factory in Llantarnam, Wales, the biscuit is famous for its distinctive red filling. While it tastes like raspberry, the original recipe uses a flavoured plum purée base to achieve the sticky texture.
Over the years, the brand has released several alternative flavours, including Apple & Blackcurrant, Sour Lemon, Double Chocolate, and Mango & Passionfruit. Now, a new Orange flavour has been spotted at budget retailer B&M.
Social Media Buzz
The well-known foodie account New Foods UK shared a photo of the Orange Jammie Dodgers on Instagram and Facebook after finding them in store. The post quickly garnered hundreds of likes from shoppers eager to try the new flavour.
One excited shopper exclaimed: "They look so good!" Another added: "Oh, this is different. Might have to give these a try." A third commented: "Bet they're well nice." Someone who had already purchased them wrote: "Got these for the kids today. They love them."
A food hack was also suggested: "Dip the bottom in melted dark chocolate for a Jaffa Cake on steroids."
Cultural Icon
Jammie Dodgers are a quintessentially British biscuit with several memorable appearances in popular culture. In 2009, they were included in a care package sent to the International Space Station for British astronaut Tim Peake. In 2010, on BBC's Doctor Who, the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) used a Jammie Dodger to trick the Daleks into thinking he had a TARDIS self-destruct button.
After briefly altering their recipe to include dairy, the biscuits returned to their vegan-friendly formula in 2020.
