UK Drivers Struggle with Car Admin Costs, Survey Finds
UK Drivers Face Higher Costs from Missed Car Admin

A recent survey indicates that approximately one-fifth (21%) of drivers have forgotten essential car administration dates, such as their MOT, tax, or insurance, potentially exposing many to penalties.

Survey Findings

Two-fifths (42%) of respondents reported finding car admin difficult, a figure that rises to more than half (59%) among those aged 25 to 34. Among those who missed these tasks, over one in ten (11%) said they subsequently faced higher costs or fees.

Nick Williams, managing director of transport at Lloyds, commented: "Juggling multiple apps, deadlines, and rising costs means things can slip through the cracks for people trying to stay on top of their car admin."

New App Feature

Lloyds released the research to mark the introduction of a new app feature called "manage your car," designed to help motorists stay on top of deadlines and costs. The feature consolidates reminders for MOTs, servicing, and insurance alongside other tools in a single place, using prompts to help motorists act on time and reduce the risk of missed deadlines and unexpected costs.

The bank stated that the app features are available to all Lloyds customers, regardless of who provides their car finance.

Survey Methodology

Lloyds commissioned YouGov to carry out the survey, which was conducted in May among more than 2,000 people across the UK.

Alternative Apps

Other apps to help people keep on top of car admin are also available. Simon Williams, head of policy at the RAC, noted that the myRAC app has four million users, adding: "You don't need to be a member of the RAC to download it."
