The Mindful Chef x Pythouse Kitchen Garden Seasonal Roast Box, priced at £80 for a Grass-fed Aberdeen Angus Beef Sirloin, delivers a restaurant-quality Sunday dinner that impressed even a sceptical reviewer. The box, which feeds four, includes a 1kg sirloin joint, potatoes, skin-on rainbow carrots, roasted cavolo nero, candied beetroot, a kale salad and a beef sauce.
What's in the box
The limited-edition box is available to order every Friday in October, with three options: Whole Norfolk Black Chicken for £65, Tenderstem, Artichoke & Cheddar Gratin for £50, and the Grass-fed Aberdeen Angus Beef Sirloin for £80. The chicken is the same rare-breed variety served to King Charles III at a state banquet at Windsor Castle in 2025.
The reviewer, who usually serves a plainer chicken dinner, noted the meal included 17 ingredients, several of which she had to look up, including cavolo nero. A booklet with full cooking instructions came with the box, and the medium option was chosen for the beef.
Portions and cooking
Portion sizes were described as generous for four, with the reviewer noting that with only three eating, there was more than enough. The end result looked stunning, similar to a restaurant dish, and tasted amazing, with the beef particularly tender.
The reviewer highlighted that buying such a range of ingredients individually would be impractical, with fresh chives, parsley, tarragon, maple and mustard dressing, and beef cooking bone broth not typical household staples. The quality of the produce was credited as making the difference.
Chefs' comments
Jesse Kempner, head chef at Mindful Chef, said: “Sunday lunch is one of those wonderful food rituals that brings people together, and we wanted to create something that celebrates that feeling while showcasing the finest seasonal produce that the UK has to offer. The Pythouse approach to seasonal, thoughtful cooking and their incredible relationship between garden and kitchen felt like a natural fit for Mindful Chef. We’ve created a roast that feels genuinely special, but is still achievable at home – from a rare-breed Norfolk Black Chicken with royal credentials to beautifully seasonal, heritage vegetables. It’s about taking away the stress of Sunday lunch and giving people more time to enjoy the food, and each other.”
Darren Broom, head chef at Pythouse Kitchen Garden, said: “Sunday roast is all about bringing people together and making the most of what’s in season. At Pythouse, we’re fortunate to have our kitchen garden right on our doorstep, so we can work closely with the seasons and let the quality of the produce lead the cooking. This collaboration with Mindful Chef brings that same approach into people’s homes, making it possible to enjoy a really special roast with top quality British ingredients, without taking away from the time spent around the table.”
