Drying bed sheets indoors can be a challenge, especially during damp weather. However, a simple method using a dehumidifier can dry bedding in just one hour for as little as 8p, offering a cost-effective alternative to a tumble dryer.
The process begins with the washing machine. Setting the load to an extra spin and drain cycle removes up to 30% more moisture from sheets in just 10 minutes. Promptly removing laundry after the cycle finishes prevents bacteria and musty odours from developing.
Next, shake each item before hanging to separate fabric fibres and improve air circulation. This prevents clumping and damp spots. On the airer, drape the bed sheet over one half and the duvet cover over the entire airer. This traps humid air inside, allowing the dehumidifier's dry air to circulate effectively.
Place the dehumidifier next to the airer, close enough to reach all items. After one hour, the bed sheet and duvet cover were fully dry, while clothes and towels required an additional three hours. The dehumidifier costs just 8p per hour to run, making it a cheaper option than a tumble dryer.
